NCRC Joins hands with PEMRA on Child Rights ( Press Release)

Islamabad – October 5, 2020 – The Chairperson National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC), Ms Afshan Tehseen along members met the Chairman, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Muhammad Saleem Baig to discuss the role of media regulatory on raising public awareness through media and to sensitize public on the issue of protection of child rights. Keeping in view, violence against children surging in Pakistan, NCRC has the responsibility to ensure children are provided with services through having child focused legal and institutional mechanisms to be safe and secure to develop their full potential. NCRC stressed that PEMRA being the regulatory body should ensure child sensitive reporting and code of conduct adopted by print and electronic media. NCRC urged PEMRA to ensure regular transmission of public service messages related to missing and abducted children. Thirdly, under the CSR PEMRA was asked to allocate adequate time for public service messages and programs related to awareness and sensitization on issues related to Child Protection. PEMRA was also approached in case of ARY Morning Show of Nida Yasir, wherein parents of a girl child victims of child abuse were posed insensitive questions that further aggravated their mental agony and suffering. The Commission wrote a letter to PEMRA to take appropriate steps in the matter of public importance.
