NCRC held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Mr. Hamza Shafqat to discuss the issue of increasing child beggary at the cross roads and traffic signals in Islamabad. Begging has turned into an organized business in the city with mafia controlling key locations where they deploy their own lackeys or lease out ground to others on a daily, weekly or monthly basis . At the same time there is a budding ‘begging industry’ which is increasingly employing trafficked children for which there are no inadequate laws and systems in the country. In the preliminary meeting, various options were discussed to address the increasing issue of child beggary in the capital. The Chairperson NCRC urged district administration and law enforcing agencies to take necessary measures to curb the menace of child beggary.
